With the proliferation of things in the Nuskom Zone, especially during spring and summer, a system has been put in place where civilian hunters are hired en masse and missions posted during a month in summer to decimate the mutated creatures and keep them from actually colonizing the outside.

There's a lot of discussion about the practicality, success, sustainability and morality of this, but the event exists and for quite a number of people it has become an important part of their yearly income.

The last yearly hunt has been quite rocky: in an attempt to control the population of giant mosquitoes around the lake, the army authorized the use of heavy-duty pesticides but did not coordinate with the population centers downstream and at least half a dozen people were affected by the poisoned water, not to mention what it can have done to crops being grown in that area.

The zone was also infiltrated twice by people considered enemies of the rigasian state: first it was Victor Vituska and then they sounded again the alarm for a “rogue psychic” that wasn't: instead it was an anagusi woman named Maal.

Because of those fuckups and others, the political officer sent by the rigasian administration to manage things called a temporary stop to the hunt to put things in order. Results might never be known because during the stop the Rigasia/Kesizma War started, with Kesizma staging an invasion through a portal in the deep zone.
