Session 2
This session was played on 21/07/2025. In it Clark and Gaia tried to hunt a lynx-shaped aberration and found instead an international terrorist trying to smuggle some strange artifact.
Plot
The day after Session 1, Gaia drives Iorena and Ferret back to the staging area. Iorena is quite upset because there has been a huge communication issue resulting in very bad planning that caused many towns downstream from the Zone to not be ready for the influx of insecticide that's being used in this year's Hunt
In the staging grounds, Clark has his breakfast conversation interrupted by a fight in which a group of burly locals are attempting to beat a small young man. Outside the mess tent, Clark sees the young man meeting with an older gentleman with a sword.
Having reached the staging grounds, Iorena is shocked to learn that international terrorist Victor Vituska has been sighted around the Zone, and Lieutenant Bodrik is now offering a reward for anyone who either provides information or gets him, dead or alive.
Clark recognizes Vituska in the newly placed wanted posters as the old man helping Zach, but refuses to participate in a manhunt. Instead, him and Gaia decide to hunt a lynx-like aberration that has been sighted in the hills.
Following a stream uphill, they fail to find the aberration, but they do find a hidden cache in the bottom of the stream that contains a simple white silk fingerless glove. When he tries it on, Clark's cryokinesis activates, creating a sphere of cold around his hand and he rips the glove off his hand scared.
They are then found by Victor and Zach who followed the stream in a car and were very upset to find the cache open and the glove missing. Clark and Gaia shot Vituska, but he hides behind the car and uses his sword to generate shockwaves and hit them from afar. Both Clark and Gaia end hurt on the floor, but Clark manages to trick Zach to charge him on the path where he placed a beartrap, snapping Zach's leg.
Clark threatens Vituska with killing Zach if they don't go away, but in the resulting tussle, he finds that Zach does have breasts. Upon noticing this, Vituska slices Zach's neck, while he's restrained by Clark.
Not wanting to allow Zach to die, Clark unleashes his cryokinesis, freezing him between life and death, and then starts bombarding Vituska with it, Vituska manages to defend himself until he is attacked also by Gaia, then his left hand is frozen solid forcing him to run away.
Cast
Quotes
- Gaia: What are the coolest things you've hunted?
- Iorena: Well, I don't think what we hunt is 'cool'? It's usually scary or nasty? I think the 'cool' things we don't hunt, we should instead let be… Ferret, the fuck does 'cool' mean?
- Gaia: What's the scariest thing you've hunted?
- Iorena: A snail.
- Gaia: Sounds… easy to me? Are you really that bad?
- Iorena: A snail the size of a house; we were seven hunters, and two hounds. Emptied all our ammunition on the thing, and it reacted like you'd react to being stung by mosquitoes. normal ones. It kept coming, and then it did some kind of weird very low sound, and we all fell down nauseous. One of the hunters could not move in time and got his legs crushed by the thing
- Zach: 'm not a blackcap
- Clark: I'm not accusing you of anything, you seem a bit young to participate in the hunt tho', whats your name?
- Zack: 'm Zack. And I'm older than I look. Not my fault I'm small. I just never got enough food when growing up. Sorry I was born after the Rigasians came and took it all away, you know.“
- Vituska: There you are, Mr. Shpak. Am I interrupting something?
- Clark: G'day sir. No I was just making sure that gentlemen was alright.
- Zach: Just got jumped by some imperialists in the mess.
- Vituska: Looking after the community is always a nice thing to do. I'm happy to see that some people don't forget their manners in these modern times […] Chin up, young one, we have a lot to do today and very little time for it, let's get on with it.
- Iorena reaches Bodrik and says “I just learned about the poison lake situation” at the same time that Bodrik says “We got a sighting of Vituska!”. For a moment both of them stop there looking at each other then things go crazy and they start shouting over each other.
- Gaia: Almond, come here!
- A small squirrel appears.
- Clark: Aw, cute; you have a pet squirrel?
- Gaia: Vanilla, come here!
- Another small squirrel appears.
- Gaia: Strawberry!
- Yet another small squirrel appears.
- Gaia: Raspberry, Blueberry, Apple, Cherry, come here!
- You know what happens.
- Clark: is confused.
- Gaia: I have a squirrel army.
- Iorena: pulling some potential hunting bounties Do you have any preferences for placement, style, et cetera?
- Gaia: I like shooting.
- Iorena: I know you do. What about you, Mr. Dubois?
- Gaia: He's here just so you don't complain I'm going alone.
- Victor very slowly peeks from one side, sword in front and at that moment you think he's going to actually throw it. Instead he cuts the air with it. A motherfucking shockwave forms, and rushes towards Clark.
- Clark: Oh fu—
- Clark only has a moment to think “what the fu…” before all the shrubs in front of him are shredded, and he's blinded by the debris (leaves, bits of wood, earth being shredded). The shockwave hits you and you have to make a roll to not drop the rifle.
- Vituska: Aren't you the young man in the staging ground? I knew there had to be something wrong about you. No one of your generation would actually step up to help someone for nothing
- In the Gaia/Victor confrontation, the very distinguished dude used his sword to basically blow half a small tree up and throw the girl that was hiding in it away, but while he was doing that, a squirrel flew in an arc over the shockwave and started scratching at his face.
- Congratulations, Gaia, his pride has been hurt.
- That's a −1 to his pride for the rest of the scene.
- …as you retreat towards the gun Victor steps forward and the sword slices once. Suddenly Zach goes limp on your arms. You feel something warm and sticky coming out of his neck. There's a light gurgle as life escapes him.
- Victor makes a “tsk tsk” noise with his tongue and says “I must apologize for the inconvenience, I had not know she was some kind of deviant; if I had I would have put her down as soon as I met her.”
- He takes a white rag and cleans the blade as he continues “my eyes must be getting bad with age. twenty years ago I would not have been tricked by this kind of disguise, alas…”
- EVERYTHING goes cold. From where you are it's like a sphere of cold grew from your gloved hand. Around you, the grass become white with frost, the surface of the river slowly solidifies. The blood coming from Zach's neck freezes, and the body does the same, it doesn't bleed anymore. he becomes rigid and stops glurging. He's now a perfectly frozen person, and you know somehow he's trapped between life and death, at a moment where either could happen.
- Gaia jumps on Victor who suddenly finds himself fighting a war in two fronts as all nazis do.
Trivia
Rose failed again to appear in this session, this time because her player had forgotten there was an actual session going on.
Unleashing his cryokinesis slightly changed Clark's aspect, making him slightly paler and colder, and the thin white strand of hair on his head to become wider. The reasons for that are only known to his player and the narrator, though.
Iorena's backstory has winks and nods to Final Fantasy VI, including hunting a snail the size of a house and keeping booze inside a grandfather clock.
