This is an old revision of the document!

Aberration

…you half turn to see what it is when suddenly a heavy furry thing lands on you, jaws first. It has huge teeth. Like, the mouth is absurdly enlarged, it has a large tongue. Its front legs and tail are stubby and deformed. The ears on the other hand are large and flop behind, and the back legs are powerful and muscled.

This is what Rigasia calls the things from the Zones. Officially they are regular animals mutated by radiation and driven insane and aggresive by pain and hunger.

Aberration is kind of the technical term that the scientists (and official documentation) use for the things. Most people around zones have a bunch of other words, and only half are not obscene; some of the common ones are just “things”, bombchildren, mutants, monsters, demons, spirits, and the list goes on…

The official line from Rigasia and the governments that cooperate with them is that aberrations are merely mutated animals that were affected by the bomb in ways we don't entirely understand yet, but this is a bit sketchy.

Aberrations are not capable of surviving long-term outside the zones, and that's good for you because it means they haven't escaped to populate the rest of the country. they can leave for a while, but if they do so, they will eventually die. Of course a swarm of aberrations that are outside a zone and in pain get extra-aggressive so this is not a good thing to happen.

Wererabbit:
These seem like having descended from wolves of some kind; they became increasingly mutated in time, with their jaws and hindlegs widening and strengthening, while their forelegs atrophied somewhat, and their ears grew longer and floppier. They form packs and are quite dangerous for lone hunters.
Giant Mosquito:
These are slightly deformed mosquitoes the size of a human hand. Not particularly dangerous alone, but a swarm of them will defend their territory and their poison causes blood to not coagulate, so more than one hunter died by blood loss trying to escape them.
Old White:
Several years ago they started seeing a very big thing in the outer ring of the zone. The less colorful descriptions say that it looks like a giant bear, all white. It has never exited the zone: it stays inside, and hides surprisingly well for how big it is, so either it doesn't attack people… or doesn't leave witnesses.
